Léo Mercier @leomercierAs an Engineer - AI has changed how I work overnight. My coding language is effectively English.
- No longer writing code - but describing what functions and classes should do.
- I write input and outputs examples and it creates the code to support this.
- I create project readme’s first - then get the AI to fill out.
- I list architecture and services to use - then it creates the integrations.
What this means is I can do work 10x faster but also can learn by prompting too.
More widely - for the tech space it means engineers will be able do more with less. New / non engineers can code with a skill set of a mid level (3-5 years experience ). Overall the barrier and skill restrictions are lowered so the developer “premium” is removed.
Leading to a more efficient system where there are more could be “engineers” that can do the same level now.
A more elastic labour force.
Abstract this out past tech and engineering - this same thinking works on most current job roles. The labour market is about to fundamentally change.
We must adapt to survive - my previous roles are unlikely to exist in next economic cycle.
But I can now do way more as an individual - ideas are faster to implement and test.
This ultimately only leads to more innovation.
There will be billion dollar companies with only one employee due to AI.Jan 13, 2025 View on X →
